Be the change.

“Be the change you want to see in the world.” That’s the quote, right?
This is most likely your first time here. So welcome to Girls In The Fast Lane, an F1 content creation brand. Girls In The Fast Lane is built upon the quote “be the change you want to see in the world”.
It all started when I fell into F1 after watching a race weekend with a former boyfriend. The deal was one race weekend and then, I wouldn’t have to watch it again. Well, it’s been 46 race weekends and 2 Grand Prix trips since that discussion. I became addicted, nothing could satisfy my hunger for the motorsport I once frowned upon. I watched every single piece of media I could get my hands on, read every article, and followed every F1 content creator. It still wasn’t enough.
12 months ago when I approached former co-host, Emma Warren to help me start a podcast, I was looking to fill a void within the community.
When I looked into the paddock or the pit lane, I didn’t see a representation of myself there or many others. Where are the women? Where are the LGBTQIA+ community? Where are the people of colour?
An ESPN survey revealed a more detailed look into the lack of women up and down the pit lane in 2021. A shocking 38% of Formula One Management’s employees are female, the data from the teams was sadly even lower. Formula 1, is a sport designed by men, for men.
Mercedes, known for making steps forward with diversity was on the top of the podium at 20%. Haas, who is the smallest team on the grid had a percentage of 9%. And quite a few of the stated they were unable to provide the requested information.
These statistics make us question the paths for females & non-binary people into F1 and the world of motorsport. The thing about women though is we are relentless. We do not give up, we do not let anyone stand in our way and you can be sure as hell, we are going to smash the glass ceiling in Formula 1 and motorsports.
